Intersexuality: a clinical singularity

Abstract

Intersexuality is considered a medical problem. Genital malformation can impede the definition of gender at birth and requires special care on the part of those responsible for the child. How does sexual definition occur among humans? Is it important to define gender at birth, or can this be postponed? Depending on the theoretical framework, intervention, conduct and treatment can occur in diverse and contradictory ways. We briefly summarize the diferent interpretations of intersexuaity in different fields of knowledge, and address the theme through psychoanalytic theory.
